A small street stall selling pieces of original Banksy artwork for $60 (£38) only managed to make $420, in the artist’s comment on the money and perspective in modern art.
The anonymous Bristol-based street-art pioneer is currently in New York for a month-long residency, and has already produced a number of works around the city.
His works often fetch more than £20,000 at auction, but by selling his original works at a street stall at New York’s Central Park – art lovers could have found themselves a real bargain.
The street stall was made to look like many around the world that offer “fake” Banksy prints for low cost, and as such they only made $420 (£263) throughout the day, leaving the majority of pieces unsold – a comment by the artist on the value of art versus the value of a name.
