People across the UK and Ireland were treated to a spectacular view of the Aurora Borealis lighting up the night sky on Sunday night.

Vivid greens, pinks, purples, reds and yellows could be seen by those in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but people also managed to see the phenomenon in locations as far south as Oxfordshire.

Many people took to social media to share their pictures of the dramatic sight, which is the result of electrically-charged particles entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
