A previously unknown medieval “mansion” has been discovered at an archaeological dig site at Longforth Farm near Wellington in Somerset.
Archaeologists says that the glazed ceramic roof tiles and decorated tiles found around the complex of buildings suggest that the buildings were of a high status, and may have been part of a religious or manorial site during the 12th to 14th centuries.
The discovery was made by a team from Wessex Archaeology whilst investigating the site before new homes are built on the location.
The site will be open to the public on Saturday 13th July.
