A New York man was left needing 30 stitches after the toilet in his apartment exploded whilst he was checking the water pressure.
Michel Pierre, 58, needed stitches for his face, arms, and legs, after shards of porcelain flew at him, with the explosion knocking him unconscious.
The water had been turned off in the apartment building of Michel Pierre, 58, earlier in the day as a plumbing contractor installed a “backflow prevention valve”. When Pierre checked to see if his pressurised flush-valve toilet was working by flushing the toilet exploded – knocking him unconscious and the shards of porcelain caused him to need 30 stitches to his face, arms, and legs.
Pierre is now too scared to flush the toilet, telling NY Daily News:
“It sounds silly but I’m still scared. Maybe someday it goes away but right now I’m in pain.”
He is seeking compensation from the management company of the apartment block, with his lawyer Sanford Rubenstein telling AFP:
“Obviously there is a serious problem in the building…Clearly toilets are supposed to flush, not explode.”
