The Greens have overtaken the Liberal Democrats in the polls, and are looking to get six MEPs in the upcoming elections – what do they stand for?

Leader Natalie Bennett is looking for the party to improve on their showing in the last European elections where they received 8.6% of the vote, which resulted in two MEPs elected, and the party are promoting candidates in every region of Britain.

She said:

“Voters want real change from business as usual but, increasingly, people are realising that UKIP offer just more of the same.

“The Green Party is standing up for hope at these elections. We have a positive vision for a European Union that puts people and the environment first. The other parties are just offering more of the same old tired politics.”

Greens’ major policy initiatives

  • Environment – move EU away form fossil fuels and protect environment from short-term corporate interests
  • Fairer society – oppose austerity, create a national living wage, and build affordable housing
  • Health and education – stop privatisation of NHS and abolish university tuition fees
  • Energy – move from fossil fuels to renewable energy, ban fracking
  • Transport – renationalise the railways and scrap HS2
