Rosettes of the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, and Labour

In the most recent figures published by polling company YouGov from surveys asking the British population whether they thought the three main parties were “nasty or nice”, the striking results show that the public are far from enamoured with any party.

The Conservatives were described by the majority (57%) of those surveyed as “mean”, whilst Labour were described by 61% of respondents as “dim”. Even worse, the Liberal Democrats were believed to be “dim” by 73% of those interviewed.

The results show a population that is feeling the pinch of the austerity measures introduced by the coalition government, with a cabinet made up of the wealthy elite that are incapable of feeling their pain. The Tory party are being blamed for these cuts, with Chancellor George Osborne maintaining the path of austerity even when the ideas have fallen out of favour in many other places around the world. However, the Lib Dems are considered too “dim” to have managed to push through any of their own policies whilst in coalition, which may have a major effect on their popularity in any future election.

Troublingly for the Labour party, these negative feelings about the current government have not converted into support for them, with leader Ed Miliband only leading David Cameron in the polls by 1% (41 to 40), with the amjority of the population not believing he has what it takes to lead the country.
