A Tennessee woman has confessed to stabbing her mother during a television interview, claiming her mother was the leader of a satanic cult.
Katie Nichols, 31, told a WVLT news crew that she had to kill her 61-year-old mother, Laurie, to prevent her from killing both her and her daughter.
She said:
“The satanic cult in this city has been casting spells on me for three or four days. I’m exhausted. I came home and found out my mom was the ringleader and she was trying to kill my daughter.
I had to kill her, she was about to kill both of us. She was so powerful, I had no idea.”
She stabbed her mother in the neck, chest, and stomach, but fled without killing her the police arrived after being called by a neighbour that heard Laurie’s screams.
Nichols said:
When I left, she was still breathing. I stabbed her three times and she should have died… She was the Antichrist. She did not die.
Nichols was arrested shortly after her on-air confession, and her mother was last reported in serious condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Tennessee woman Katie Nichols stunned local news reporters covering a stabbing when she confessed to having committed the crime to cameras, claiming her mother was the leader of a satanic cult.
“The satanic cult in this city has been casting satanic spells on me for three, four days. I’m exhausted. I came home and found out my mom was the ringleader and was trying to kill my daughter,” Nichols calmly told a WVLT reporter after returning to the scene of the crime.
“I had to kill her – she was going to kill both of us. She was so powerful, I had no idea – I had no idea that my mother was that powerful” she added.
Nichols was arrested shortly after the confession, while the victim remains in intensive care.
