A South Korean woman had to be rescued by firefighters after her robot vacuum cleaner started hoovering up her hair while she slept.
The unnamed 52-year-old resident of Changwon in southeast South Korea woke up in agony after around 5cm of her hair became tangled in the vacuum’s rotors.
Unable to free herself, the woman made a “desperate rescue plea” to the local fire department, who separated her from the bowels of the machine with the help of paramedics, according to South Korean newspaper the Kyunghyang Shinmun.
Robot vacuum cleaners first went on sale in 2002, and are used in millions of homes around the world. The small autonomous devices can be programmed to automatically start hoovering at specific times of day to make sure the carpets are clean when the homeowners arrive back from work.
