Following the success of Tatia Pilieva’s First Kiss video where 20 strangers meet for the first time and share a kiss, director Max Landis has followed a similar concept with his viral video where 40 people slap each other on camera.

Set to the soft folk sounds of ‘We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow’ by Soko, Landis brought together 40 of his friends and acquaintances to take part in ‘The Slap’, as he describes:

“I gathered acquaintances, friends both casual and close, paired them randomly, put them in a void, and asked them to hit each other in the face. No one was pressured, and everyone was hit as hard as THEY asked to be hit. To go beyond the parody for the full story of what happened, be sure to watch Point of Impact.”

The clip involves a number of celebrities and actors including a bearded Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), Jessica Stroup (90210), Dustin Milligan (90210), Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley), Elizabeth Gillies (Victorious), Matt Bennett (Victorious), and Hannah Marks (Necessary Roughness).

First Kiss turned out to be an advert for fashion brand Wren Studio, but it appears that The Slap was made purely for entertainment and Landis has made clear that no-one was paid for their role.

The short film has been watched over 275,000 in just one day.

Landis also released some behinds the scenes footage from the making of The Slap:
