A letter written by Herfordshire police officers to a drunk reveller after safely driving him home has gone viral.

The man avoided a night in the cells for drunk and disorderly conduct, and instead found a note signed “Cagney and Lacey” after the 1980s cop drama, which read:

We found you staggering in the road on your way home from Watford,’ read the letter, written on Hertfordshire Constabulary notepaper.

You were so drunk we were worried you wouldn’t get home in one piece! So we gave you a lift home.

Please don’t get that drunk again.

A photograph of the letter found by the man the next morning reached the frontpage of Reddit and has received more than 40,000 likes on Facebook, and was even retweeted by the official Hertfordshire Police Twitter account!
