An unnamed dog-walker has found £60,000 of banknotes floating down a Lincolnshire river, with authorities confused about where the money has come from.

The money was found floating at South Drove Drain in Spalding in October and handed in to police, but no-one has yet come forward to claim the notes.

The police are now forensically examining the banknotes and in contact with the Bank of England to try to determine the money’s origin and owner, although few clues have been found so far.

Lincolnshire Police have asked that anyone with information about the money to call them on 101 and quote incident number 154 (25/10/13).
