A toddler’s life was saved after a couple used their mattress to break his fall from a third floor window in California.
A three-year-old boy and his sister were spotted throwing some toys out of a third floor window onto the concrete below by Konrad and Jennifer Lightner, who were in the midst of moving house on 17 March.
The couple were carrying their bed when they noticed that the boy had climbed out of the window, according to My Burbank. The boy then became precariously entangled in some wires, and the quick-thinking couple quickly grabbed their mattress and threw it below where they thought the boy might fall before calling emergency services.
As the boy fell, Konrad opened his arms beneath him and managed to catch him, using the mattress as a cushion, and saving him from crashing into the hard concrete below.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived shortly after the incident, and took the boy to hospital where he is said to only have sustained minor injuries, with his parents looking more distressed by his near-death experience.
