Staff at a Cornish supermarket were given a fright when they found a live scorpion in a packet of bananas.
Sale assistant Angela Parren spotted the 8cm juvenile black edged scorpion while stacking shelves at the Phoenix store in St. Stephen.
The Centruroides limbatus is commonly found in Costa Rica, where this scorpion is believed to have begun his journey, and their venom is not considered a threat to humans. However, the Smithsonian Institution warns “being stung by one is no picnic”
The creature has been offered a home at Newquay Zoo.
