Authorities in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus are to ban lace underwear because the material does not absorb moisture.
The move to ban the import and production of lace underwear is part of a Russia-led customs union between the three countries, and will come into effect in July.
However, the move has been met with protests in Kazakhstan, with women waving their lace knickers in the air according to the BBC, and AP reports of 30 women being arrested while wearing lace knickers on their heads and chanting:
“Freedom to panties”
The regulation to ban lace underwear was approved in 2011, but the law had been unenforced, with all underwear on sale from July needing to have a minimum of 6% cotton.
