Five percent of people have admitted to checking Facebook during sex in a survey by condom brand Durex.

As part of its #turnofftoturnon campaign, Durex polled a sample of the UK population about their technological habits during sex, and found that 12% of people had answered the phone, one in ten had read a text, and one in twenty had logged into Facebook.

While this may sound disappointing for the nation’s love lives, the situation is even worse over the pond in the US, with 20% of 18-34 year olds admitting to using a smartphone during sex, according to a recent Harris poll, and Twitter users tend to have shorter relationships, according to OKCupid.

To promote switching off our gadgets and getting into the mood, Durex is celebrating “Earth hour” later this month, as Ukonwa Ojo explains:

“Earth Hour provides the perfect opportunity for couples to switch off for an hour and focus exclusively on reconnecting with each other. What else is as much fun to do in the dark that is as energy efficient as it is energetic?!”
