Ignoring the numerous “Do Not Touch” signs at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence, an American tourist has accidentally broken the finger of a 14th century statue of the Virgin Mary believed to be the work of Giovanni d’Ambrogio.
A security guard reportedly tried to stop the tourist from man-handling the statue, but was too late, with the unnamed man now possibly facing a large fine.
It is unclear how much the repair work on the statue will cost.
