A family were forced to flee their Staffordshire home after they discovered a nest of potentially deadly spiders in a pack of bananas.

Crystal Roberts bought the pack of bananas from a local shop, but it was her husband Jamie that spotted some marks on the skins. He originally thought the marks were mould, but on closer inspection he saw it was a spider nest, containing hundreds of tiny arachnids.

Crystal immediately called pest controllers, who advised them to evacuate the house immediately, believing that the spiders could be the deadly Brazilian Wandering Spider, such as those discovered on a pack of bananas from Sainsbury’s in November.

The couple left their house, along with their three children, for three days, as pest controllers fumigated the building to make sure that all the spiders had been killed.
