American daredevil Nik Wallenda has made the history books by becoming the first person to cross the Grand canyon on a tightrope.
In higher than expected winds, with unpredictable gusts reaching up to 56 km/h, and after twice crouching down to steady himself, Wallenda walked 426 metres other side in just 22 minutes and 54 seconds.
He had expected to take questions from journalists live on the wire, but was prevented by the high winds.
The whole event was live broadcast to the world to 219 countries, however, by the Discovery Channel, with viewers hearing the daredevil say as he stepped into the void:
“That’s a view there buddy. Praise God, this is awesome”
This stunt took Wallenda four years of planning, and soon after completing the feat he explained what he is planning next:
“My dream for my next stunt is to walk between two skyscrapers in New York City”
