McVitie’s has opened a ‘Cuddle Cafe’ in London, where people are offered a hot drink and biscuits in return for a hug.

The biscuit company opened the cafe in response to research that suggested nearly three quarters of Brits would like more cuddles than the ten per week they currently get in their lives.

Dr Farrimond, who designed the two day popup and specialises in the emotional and health benefits of cuddles, commented:

“My research not only discovered that cuddling a soft toy triggers a similar emotional response and health benefit to hugging a person, but also that the act of drinking a hot beverage can stimulate similar warm, positive feelings, so what better combination than a cuppa and a cuddle?”

Tea, coffee, cake, and biscuits are offered to patrons of the Tottenham Court Road cafe in return for hugging a cute oversized interactive BN owl.
