A man from Haikou City, China, has been charged with attempted murder after he was captured on CCTV pushing his girlfriend down a manhole on December 12th.
The man can be seen on CCTV placing a piece of cardboard over an open manhole, before directing his girlfriend to run over the trap in a rainstorm whilst she is distracted and holding an umbrella. As she tries to climb out, he pushes her down, replaces the manhole, nd places a heavy piece of wood across the top.
The woman, known as Guo, was stuck in the sewers for two 60 hours before passers-by heard her screams and found her in her underwear and exhausted from trying to keep her head above water.
The man reportedly confessed to the crime after he was arrested, reportedly admitting that he had tried to murder his girlfriend over a 100,000 yuan (£10,000) debt he owed her.
