French may be known as the language of love, but the British accent is considered the sexiest in the world, according to a new survey.
The Time Out Global Dating Survey asked 11,000 people in 24 cities which accents they found the most attractive, the British accent was the clear winner with over a quarter of the votes. It beat out competition from American, Irish, and Australian, with French only managing to come in fifth.
The survey did not differentiate between the wide variety of British accents from around the country, but with Sean Connery’s Scottish Bond always popular and Benedict Cumberbatch appears to have taken over the world as Sherlock Holmes in recent years, it may be difficult to choose.
The survey also asked participants about their dating lives and examined the dating scenes around the world.
Paris was found to be the best city of dating, with Bogata a place of beautiful women and Kabul a place of too many men.
The majority of people (58%) admitted to checking a potential date’s social media profiles before meeting them.
One in ten said that sex on the first date was acceptable, but the majority did kiss on the first outing. It took on average three and a half dates before couples had sex, giving some credence to the “three date rule”, while it took nine dates before most people were comfortable describing themselves as a couple.
