A Connecticut high school student has been stabbed to death after rejecting the suspect’s request to take her to prom.

Maren Sanchez, 16, suffered lacerations to the neck, face, and chest at Jonathan Law High School in Milford before lessons began on Friday morning, according to the local New Haven Register.

Sanchez was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died from her injuries about half and hour later.

The suspect, an unidentified 16-year-old student at the school, was immediately taken into custody by staff after the incident.

Sanchez was co-organising the prom with other students for that Friday evening, with the event since postponed as students come to terms with the incident at their school and loss of one of their friends.
