The FBI have announced that they have joined the hunt for an elderly woman whose husband was found decapitated in an exclusive gated community in Georgia.

The headless body of Russell Dermond, 88, was discovered in the couple’s garage at their home in Reynolds Plantation near Atlanta on 6 May, after friends became suspicious that the couple had missed a social engagement and phone call were going unanswered. His head has not yet been recovered.

He is believed to have been killed sometime between Friday an Sunday, but detectives are “baffled” by the case as there is no evidence of forced entry, the couple’s valuables remain in the house, and both their cars are still in the driveway, according to the local Macon Telegraph.

The killing was believed to have occurred sometime between Friday and Sunday.

Shirley Dermond, 87, is currently missing, with no friends or family reporting contact with her in recent days.

The elderly couple’s family form New Jersey are reportedly travelling to Atlanta to assist in the investigation and search for Shirley.
