Oscar Pistorius told a worried security guard “everything is fine” shortly after his neighbours reported hearing gunshots, a South African court has heard.

Pieter Baba testified that Pistorius told him “everything is fine” in their brief conversation after reports of gunshots, before calling him back soon afterwards and breaking down in tears.

Baba’s testimony follows that of former girlfriend Samantha Taylor who described Pistorius as sometimes getting angry with her friends, always carrying a gun, and once firing his weapon out of the sunroof of his car. Her relationship ended with Pistorius in November 2012 after he cheated on her with Reeva Steenkamp, who he stands accused of murdering.

Pistorius has been charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home when he shot her through the locked bathroom door. Pistorius insists that he believed the person behind the door was an intruder.
