New analysis of the satellite data from the last moments of missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 has shown that the plane crashed in the south Indian Ocean, according to the Malaysian prime minister.

Najib Razak said that the families of the 239 people on board had been informed of the recent conclusion that it was “beyond reasonable doubt” that the plane crashed at see and there were no survivors.

The conclusions are based on analysis by the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch and Inmarsat, the UK company that provided satellite data, which found that the plane crashed into the Indian Ocean, west of Perth, Australia, close to where both Chinese and Australian planes have spotted debris over the last few days.

Mr Razak said:

“This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.”
