Spanish police have arrested a man found with a drug-filled sandwich in the beach town of Benidorm.

A 29-year-old Colombian man was arrested at a Benidorm bus station after police spotted that the cheese and ham sandwich he was carrying contained more than 100g of cocaine in nine small plastic capsules.

When officers searched the man’s home, they reportedly discovered more than a kilogram of cocaine, marijuana, and measuring tools.

A second 20-year-old Columbian national, understood to be room-mates with the first man, was also reportedly arrested.

Historical Spanish links with Latin America mean that much of the cocaine due for Western Europe enters through the Spanish coast, with the UK the largest consumer of the drug in the EU and another major point on entry for smugglers.
