Two members of the elite French Brigades de Recherche et d’Intervention (BRI) police unit have been charged with the rape of a Canadian tourist at their Paris headquarters.

The 34-year old Canadian woman is reported to have met the officers at a bar on Tuesday night, near to the unit’s headquarters at 36 quai des Orfèvres.

The woman filed a complaint about the rape soon after the incident and has undergone a medical examination with DNA samples taken for analysis.

The Guardian reports that the woman’s spectacles and stockings disappeared soon after she reported the incident.

Two members of the BRI unit were charged on Sunday evening, with one man admitting to having consensual sex with the woman but denying rape. Two more officers were released after questioning on Saturday.
