Around 900 people have been evacuated from London skyscraper the Shard as firefighters investigate reports of smoke in the basement.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched seven fire engines at around 10:30 BST, with 50 firefighters setting up a 50m cordon around the skyscraper as they investigated the reports.

There were no reports of any injuries as a result of the smoke, and fire fighters have found no fire apparent in the basement.

The 87-storey Shard is the tallest building in western Europe at 310m, and recently made headlines with lightning striking the skyscraper during a thunder storm in the British capital last month.
