In a major breach of security, the passport numbers of every squad member of both England and Ecuador were handed out to the press box before their friendly World Cup warm up game in Miami.

The team sheets were handed out to members of the press about an hour before the game as normal at the Sun Life Stadium, but officials had mistakenly published not just the names of those playing, but also their passport numbers and the signatures of those that approved the list, including Frank Lampard.

The details were quickly being shared around social media after England team sponsor Vauxhall tweeted a photograph of the team sheet without noticing the extra information, before quickly replacing that tweet with another without the offending data:

Fraudsters could use the players’ passport numbers and use widely published photographs and personal details of the players to sign up for bank accounts or credit cards in their names.
