Dave Lee Travis has been cleared of 12 counts of indecent assault after what he described as “a year and a half of hell”.

After 20 hours of deliberation, the jury at Southwark Crown Court failed to reach a decision on two further charges of indecent assault and another of sexual assault.

The former BBC radio DJ and Top of the Pops presenter, 68, maintained his innocence throughout the four week trial over the alleged incidents that dated between 1976 and 2008 and involved 11 women.

Speaking after the verdict, Travis made an emotional statement, saying:

“I am not over the moon about any of this today. I do not feel like there is a victory in any way, shape or form.

On the contrary, I think you already know that I have been through a year and a half of hell on this.”

He went on to say that after the trial by media, loss of reputation, and huge legal expenses he has endured, all he wanted to do was go home with his wife, Marianne, who stood by him throughout the trial.

Travis has now been released on bail until another hearing on 24th February will determine whether there should be a retrial to examine the undecided charges.

  1. Outrageous! The law’s an ass! So many people that worked with him over the years said so many bad things. Just knowing the elements that have been given to the media means the jury’s decision is crazy…
