The government are planning to introduce a law that would impose the same punishments on adults guilty of emotional cruelty towards children as those guilty of physical neglect.
The so-called “Cinderella Law” will be introduced in the Queen’s Speech in June according to the Daily Telegraph, with those found guilty facing up to 10 years in prison.
The change will update existing laws in England and Wales that allows for prosecution of adults that deliberately assault or abandon a child, or expose them to suffering or injury.
The move follows a cross-party campaign for the change, led by charity Action for Children.
