30 people have been injured after a number 59 double-decker bus crashed into a tree in south London.

The bus accident happened on Kennington Road at around 10:50, with Mike Weston, Transport for London’s director for buses saying that the bus “swerved to avoid another vehicle and struck a tree”.

Two people remain trapped in the vehicle, with two others considered in a critical condition.

Two police officers are amongst those injured in the collision in Kennington.

The Met Police have made a brief statement on the ongoing situation:

A number of people have been injured; we await a full assessment.

At present, 23 people are described as walking wounded.

Seven people are still being assessed, of whom two remain trapped on the bus.

At this stage, there has been no fatality.

There was no police vehicle involved in the collision. Two uniformed police officers were travelling on the bus, both were injured, we await further details.
