Bono has apologised to music fans for auto-downloading their latest album to iPhones, iPads, and iPods around the world.

U2 may have made a lot of money with their deal with Apple to put their latest album ‘Songs of Innocence’, but many music fans were rather vocal in their annoyance of what some called “music spam”. The complaints were so loud that Apple released a Songs of Innocence removal tool within a week of the album being sent out.

Now, in an interview for Facebook, Bono has apologised for the whole affair.

Facebook user Harriet Madeline Jobson asked:

“Can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically download to peoples’ playlists ever again? It’s really rude.”

To which Bono replied with a chuckle:

“Oops…I’m sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea and we got carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing. A drop of megalomania, a touch of generosity, a dash of self-promotion, and deep fear that these songs that we’d poured our lives into over the last few years mightn’t be heard.

There’s a lot of noise out there. I guess we got a little noisy ourselves to get through.”
