Plans for a man-made surfing centre near Bristol have been approved by the local South Gloucestershire Council.

The 2,790m2 attraction called The Wave Bristol will cost an estimated £6 million to construct, and will be built upon greenbelt land outside Easter Compton in Almondsbury.

The central surfing lake will use Wavegarden technology to create the “world’s longest waves”, which could be rode by beginners and professional surfers alike, according to the – will be suitable for both professional surfers and beginners.

Surrounding the Wavegarden is planned a natural swimming lake and multifunctional gardens, barefoot trail areas, and foraging areas, and a cafe serving locally sourced produce.

The attraction is still subject to approval by the Secretary of State.
