American fast-food chain KFC has closed a number of its outlets around the UK after they ran out of chicken.
Last week, KFC implemented a new distribution system, with supplies now delivered to stores via DHL, but teething problems left a number of restaurants without their main ingredient.
KFC, which stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken, was forced to shutter stores in London, the South East, the Midlands, East Anglia, the North East, and Wales, and only offer limited menus or open for shorter hours at other locations.
On Twitter, the company tried to make light of the issue, saying “The chicken crossed the road, just not to our restaurants”.

Around 80% of the firm’s 900 UK restaurants are franchises and not centrally owned and operated, and the change-over from logistics firm Bidvest to DHL appears to have caused issues. In a statement, DHL said: “Due to operational issues, a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed. We are working with our partners to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience.”
