The Hennessey Venom GT has unofficially become the fastest production car in the world after reaching a speed of 270.49mph (435.311km/h) on Nasa’s space shuttle landing runway at the JFK Space Center in Florida.

The get the official record, the Venom GT will need to match that speed on a second run.

The car is powered by a 7-litre twin-turbo GM-sourced V8 engine, and there are currently on 11 of them in the world.

  1. Actually, the vehicle hasn`t broken the record, the yanks jumped the gun there. In order to break that record they had to make two runs, they only made one, ergo the world record is still the Bugatti`s.
