Three of technology’s most high profile investors have injected money into Vicarious, a secretive artificial intelligence firm that is focused on translating the brain’s neocortex into code.

Tesla’s Elon Musk, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and actor turned technology venture capitalist Ashton Kutcher have invested $40 million (£2.4 million) in Vicarious, showing support for its mission to create a software-based artificial brain that “thinks like a person”, according to the WSJ.

Vicarious is one of a number of firms investigating the possible future for artificial intelligence, where robots can perform tasks from driving cars (Google’s self-driving cars), to diagnosing patients (IBM’s Watson).
