BBC iPlayer Radio crashed today as England cricket fans flooded the service hoping to listen to Australia’s batting collapse during the Ashes test at Trent Bridge.

Many cricket fans reported being unable to listen to Test Match Special on BBC Five Live Sports Xtra for the commentary as Australia slumped to one of their worst innings totals of all time.

The issues show how people continue to turn to internet radio to listen rather than using traditional FM/MW/LW analogue frequencies or the more modern DAB digital radio. People are able to listen to internet radio through their phones, and that makes it the go-to option for many.

Those struggling to access iPlayer, can access the BBC streams through other apps like TuneIn Radio, while those hoping to access the BBC stream from abroad should look at using a VPN like TunnelBear to access the service as if they were in the UK.
