In the surest sign yet that adult material has become a recognised part of culture, a new “international, peer-reviewed journal to critically explore cultural products and services designated as pornographic” has been launched.

Titled “Porn Studies” and published by London-based Routledge, the editors note that studies into the subject are still in their infancy around the world, and the journal looks to evaluate pornography in cultures of the past and present.

The first issue includes papers entitled “Studying porn cultures”, “The ‘problem’ of fantasies”, and “Porn and sex education, porn as sex education”, with the whole edition available online for free for a limited period.
