I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here

MP for Mid-Bedforshire, Nadine Dorries has been suspended by the Conservative Party over her decision to appear on ITV1’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

Ms Dorries will be the first sitting MP to appear on the show, which could see her being away from her jobs in Westminster and her constituency for up to a month if she proves popular with the public – something which has concerned the Conservative Party sufficiently to withdraw the whip.

Ms Dorries has claimed that her appearance on the reality show would allow her to raise awareness of the issues she supports, such as the reduction of the abortion limit from 24 weeks to 20 weeks, by appealing to the show’s 16 million audience. In an interview with the Daily Mail she is quoted as saying “I hope there will be some lively, heated debates”.

Her decision to join the show has angered and horrified other MPs across the spectrum, with many on both sides calling for her resignation as her appearance would “bring politics into disrepute”.

Commentators have also widely condemned her involvement in the show, with the “Fleetstreet Fox” on twitter saying:

So Nadine’s been thrown suspended because IACGMOOH is more damaging to her party than dodgy expenses, misrepresentation, adultery, bizarre media appearances, accusations of peddling prescription pills, nepotism, random terrors, accusing journalists of torture and repeatedly claiming newspapers have lied about her and not apologising when, er, it all turns out to be true. That’s all right then.
