The controversial appointment to the new universities watchdog has spent much of the last three days arguing he is the right calibre of person for the job, whilst simultaneously attempting to scrub a series of embarrassing tweets from his timeline.

Many have complained that Toby Young lacks the qualifications and experience for his new role on the board of the Office for Students, but even more problematic are his views about women.

As a board member of the Office for Students, the Spectator columnist will be expected to hold up the ideas of equality and inclusiveness, which he has railed against in the past, as well as support both male and female students and academics.
