Support for Scottish independence has fallen to 35%, while 54% would vote ‘No’, according to the latest YouGov poll for The Times.
10% remain undecided, but if they are excluded from the results then the lead for the Better Together campaign stretches to 61% – 39%.
The poll shows a slight growth in support for the ‘No’ campaign, and a slight decline in support for the SNP-led ‘Yes’ vote, showing increasing concern by the Scottish population about the uncertainty the future would hold for an independent Scotland.
Alex Salmond has struggled to put forward the case for an independent Scotland after all three major Westminster parties denied any possibility of a currency union, and EU officials have warned that Scottish entry to the EU may not be immediate.
This uncertainty has meant that 49% of those polled said they believed Scotland would be economically worse-off after independence, with only 27% believing the country would be better off. 43% of respondents also said that they thought they would personally be worse off after independence, with just 17% believing their economic future would be improved.
