An internal Lib Dem Regional Parties Committee has suspended the party membership of Lord Rennard after he declined to apologise over claims of sexual harassment.
Lord Rennard maintains that he has done nothing wrong and has nothing to apologise for, but the scandal caused a major rift in the party with a Lib Dem activist leaving the party over the “mess” and another threatening to do so.
Rennard had previously threatened legal action against the party if he did not have the whip reinstated, and claimed the party had lost sight of due process and the idea of innocent until proven guilty.
