In contrast to the previous good natured debate on LBC, the rematch between UKIP leader Nigel Farage and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg on the BBC became heated with personal insults hurled by both politicians.

Clegg opened the discussion and accused Farage of “dangerous fantasies” about the future of the UK outside Europe, while Farage hit back by accusing Clegg of “wilfully lying” about the influence of Brussels on UK lawmaking.

Many had expected Clegg to improve his ratings with a televised debate, but Farage was again deemed victorious by the public, increasing his lead in a YouGov snap polls from 57% in the LBC radio debate to 68% today. Those who thought Clegg won the debate declined from 36% to 27%.
