Eight year-old’s letter to MP Stephen Timms

Labour MP Stephen Timms received a letter from from an eight year-old girl explaining how her life has become increasingly difficult with falling living standards and her family struggling to make ends meet.

Families around the UK are feeling the pinch as living standards continue to fall across the UK, with inflation outpacing wages for 39 of the 40 months under the coalition government. The economy may be recovering, and corporations are starting to see profits again, as the wages continue to stagnate and the cost of goods and services continue to rise, people are being left behind.

The letter reads:

Dear MP,

I am writing this letter because I am unable to attend this meeting with my parents due to my school. So, I told my parents to give this letter to you on my behalf.

Sir, thinsg are becoming more and more difficult. Initially, we were living in a two bedroom flat, but now we have to give a room out because of the house rent. We are now all sleeping in one room. Moreso, we now even find it difficult to feed because my parents keep telling me they don;t have money.

Sir, I am an hard working girl that wants to keep learning more and more, but due to the financial situation of my parents , I am unable to attend to teaching lessons and swimming lessons of Saturdays because my parents said they don’t have enough money.

Sir, I would like you to please interfere on our behalf.

Thank you for all your effort towards my family.
