Harry Potter author JK Rowling has come out against Scottish independence, and has been on the receiving end of a number of abusive and threatening tweets from Scottish nationalists as a result. Here we have ten of the worst offenders.
The author has chosen Scotland as her home and will vote in the upcoming independence referendum, but as Rowling noted herself, there are a “fringe of nationalists who like to demonise anyone who is not blindly and unquestionably pro-independence”, and the barrage of Twitter abuse she received is testament to that.
One of the messages appear to have come from a charity, which has resulted in the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) investigating the situation, and making a statement on their website to say:
“We are aware that a number of concerns have been raised today about a tweet from Scottish Charity The Dignity Project SC027546.
We are making urgent inquiries into the matter and will be seeking further information from the charity trustees.”
