Festival-goers were treated to the sight of a record-breaking 460kg firework as the finale of a huge display during the 13th Kounosuhanabitaikai festival in Konosu City, near Tokyo.

The rocket, which has been certified by Guinness World Records, was fired into the air before exploding into a fireball of white/orange streams measuring 800m across, illuminating the sky as an audience of 600,000 people gasped below.

The huge “four feet ball” firework was the last of a 15,000 explosion display that lit up the night sky.
