A New Zealand politician was struck in the face by a flying pink dildo in protest to the controversial Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce was speaking to reporters at Waitangi, when a woman, later named as Christchurch nurse Josie Butler, threw the sex toy at his face from close range, shouting “That’s for raping our sovereignty”.

Luckily, Joyce saw the funny side of the incident, telling reporters:

“We actually thought it was a little bit humorous at the end of it all…new experiences in politics everyday, it’s the privilege of serving.”

The internet always finds sex toys funny and by Friday evening Steven Joyce was the top New Zealand trend on Twitter, with #dildogate a close second.

Butler can be seen in the video clip being escorted from the scene by police, but she later said on facebook that she had been released without charge.

The New Zealand Herald interviewed Labour leader Andrew Little and NZ First leader Winston Peters about the incident, both of whom struggled to keep a straight face.
