After suffering from hiccups for two years, an Irish man has been told by doctors that there is probably no cure.

Daniel Clavin, 38, woke up with hiccups after a stag do in July 2011 and has been unable to stop despite changing his diet, taking tranquillisers, and trying a number of old wives’ cures.

Doctors cannot find a cure for his hiccups, but after seeing a neurologist he was prescribed chlorpromazine, a drug normally used to treat schizophrenics, which has reduced them to a regular pattern where he can be hiccup-free for up to a week at a time.

Clavin suffers from multiple sclerosis and believes the hiccups may be a symptom of the disease, but with no cure available he fears he may suffer from them for the rest of his life, according to the Mirror.
