A climber has filmed a video of his escape back to the surface after falling more than 21m down a crevasse in the Himalayas.
Western Kentucky University geography professor Dr John All had fallen down the crevasse, which had recently been covered in fresh snow, while hiking and collecting snow samples on Mount Himlung, close to Mount Everest in Nepal.
The climber broke his arm, five ribs, and dislocated his shoulder in the fall, but managed to crawl his way back to the surface after a gruelling five hours. He then had to make it back to his tent to be able to call for help, which finally arrived the next day, evacuating him to a hospital in Kathmandu.
All described the experience on Facebook as:
“One of life’s hardest moments”
